Suriname President Desi Bouterse resumed his duties on Thursday September,2 after temporarily ceding power to vice-president Robert Ameerali last week. Bouterse, 64, who addressed questions from the press before starting his work, said he was exhausted after the intense elections campaign. He also caught dengue and needed rest.
Bouterse was elected as president and sworn-in as president on August 12, becoming this South American country’s ninth president. On Monday September 6, Bouterse makes a one-day visit to Guyana to discuss a number of cooperation possibilities. Followed by a visit on Wednesday September 8, to Venezuela. He is expected to address the UN General Assembly on September 25 and present his annual budget in the Suriname National Assembly on September 29, 2010.
